First off. Fuck Planet Subaru. They lost a sale to my buddy cuz they were dicks. They lost my sale cuz they were unwilling to negotiate. and now just a general fuck you to them. Are they bad people, no, just dicks.

so heres my problem. The screw on the scissor jack has stripped and froze the jack. The actual lifting part of the jack is 'U' shaped to fit around a flange. my question is can I use my wifes jack out of her Escape with the only difference is its a flat top so it would sit on the edge of the flange and not around it. Th guy in the service department said it would be ok but i dont know if I can trust him. I have 1 summer tire on and 3 winters.

Kinja'd!!!

So here I sit, dat lift bro

Yes, you may bend your pinch weld and it won't be the most stable thing in the world so chuck a tire under and don't crawl under it yourself. You can also cut a channel in a block of wood or hockey puck and place it on top.

I'd call around to local gas stations or parts stores until you find one with a floor jack they'll let you borrow, personally.

Should be fine using the Escape Jack. But bro, please go to Autozone and pick up a cheap pump jack for like $40. They last at least a year with frequent use and will speed up your job exponentially. Can't be wastin time with dat scissor bro.

well i need a new jack for the car anyway so I gutta get that. the scissor isn;t that bad. I was just afraid of bending the flange. I couldn;t tell if it lifts from the flange or on either side of it.

thats what I was thinking. so the jakc lifts from either side of the flange and not the flange itsself? I wouldn;t be crawling under, just sawpping the wheels.

+ all the 1's. The scissor jacks they put in the trunk aren't made for repetitive use, and spending a few tens of bucks on a bottle jack or a standard jack (and set of jack stands) is worth it if you constantly work your car/swap tires.

There's probably not a spot large enough for it on either side so you'd want to place it on the weld itself. It is reinforced so it shouldn't bend, but sometimes it does anyway. The point of using a cut hockey puck or whatever is to allow you to span it. You can pick up a jack adapter if you want to be less ghetto than using a puck, but there's likely not one local: https://www.flyinmiata.com/fm-jack-adapte…

I loved my Subaru's but I have had bad experiences with two different dealers. One wouldn't warranty a stock turbo on a new, completely unmodified 2005 wrx that was just 400 some odd miles out of warranty. (I get it rules are rules, but when it's so close to the warranty end date on a part that really should not fail, I would think that they could have offered some sort of help just to keep a customer).

The dealer where I had bought both of my Subaru's (new 2005 wrx in 2005, and a 2004 STi with 6k miles in 2007) wouldn't let me test drive an 2009 STi without signing first, after I called ahead asking if I could come down an take a new STi for a spin!!! I probably would have bought it too, but it was a blessing in disguise, a week later I bought an E46 M3.

As for the jack, I'm sure you'll be fine to use it to get yourself out of your current predicament, but I wouldn't make a habit of it.

i'll put some consideration into this. Its pretty pathetic after its third use to have it fail

yea this place gave me the same bullshit about taking, no joke, an '08 WRX for a test drive. It wasn;t until we talked numbers that I was aloowed in it. a 6 yr old car W/ 68k miles, come on. and they wanted almost $19000 for it!

Yikes! You're probably better off, I heard that 08 was the year to stay away from.

that I believe was the last year for the 215 (I think) hp motor. It was also still considered a trim line where as now the WRX is concidered its own model.

Ah.. it was also the first hatchback (before the wider fenders) so the 08's really look like a base impreza.

227HP actually. And yeah... for 2009, they changed the turbo so it would make 265HP (which chopped the 0-60 time by 1 second) and improved the suspension.

If you want a smoother riding WRX and don't care about having the best performance, then the 2007/2008 models are alright. If you want a firmer ride and more speed, then you want a 2009+ model.

I personally would consider a 2007-2008 WRX as a daily driver if the price was right. It's still a great car... just not as good as the 2009+ models.

Excellent reminder on all accounts. Jack stands should be used pretty much anytime you jack the car up, definitely if you're getting under it.
